The Coffee Chat: Why I’m Building a Person, Not a Studio (yet)
Grab your coffee. I’m pulling up a chair for you so you can join the debate.
I was catching up with a friend, and between sips of coffee and "life and business" talk, he hit me with the question every freelancer eventually faces: "Why are you building you, and not a company?"

The Crossroads: Personal vs. Studio
As a freelancer, you have two paths. You can be [Your Name], or you can be [Cool Creative Studio]. He wanted to know why I’ve doubled down on my personal brand instead of hiding behind a corporate logo.
If you follow me on YouTube or Twitter, you’ll see my logo everywhere—it’s a huge part of my visual identity. But even when the logo is the profile picture, it’s my face you see and my opinions you hear. I’m not a "Marketing Entity"; I’m a person sharing a journey.
Why Personal Branding Wins ("For Now")
- Trust is the New Currency: On LinkedIn, people don’t follow logos; they follow people. When I post a behind-the-scenes, you see my eyes, my hands, and my process. That builds a level of trust a "Studio" profile just can't reach.
- The "Human" Algorithm: Personal profiles almost always get more engagement. People want to debate with me, not with a corporation.
- Flexibility: As "Me," I can talk about photography, branding, or even my latest blog post: The Only 3 Linux Distros You Actually Need. A corporate brand can often feel "trapped" in its own niche.

The Case for the "Studio Brand"
We didn't ignore the other side. A Studio Brand (like Iris Creative) has its perks:
- Scalability: It’s easier to hire a team under a studio name.
- The "Exit" Strategy: You can eventually sell a company; it’s much harder to sell a company named after yourself.
- Perceived Size: Sometimes, big corporate clients feel "safer" hiring a studio than a solo freelancer (even if the work is identical!).
My Verdict
Given where I am right now, authenticity is my biggest asset. Being a freelancer in Dublin is about connections. It’s about being the person someone thinks of when they need a high-energy video, not just a name on a Google search.
Even when I’m using my logo to represent my work, the "Brand of Me" is where the heart is.
